WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW?
Whoa boy! It’s intense out there.
There’s lots of heavy, low-vibrational energy contributing to the negativity, separation, and division on our planet.
But the good news is, so many of us are awakening to an internal drive, a mission, to create change.
And we’re taking action.
Not from a place of adversity or conflict, but instead through awareness, introspection, healing, and energy work.
We’re Lightworkers.
WHAT IS A LIGHTWORKER?
“A Lightworker is someone who makes a conscious decision to answer the call of Source (light) over the call of the ego (fear).”

Lightworkers are aware of how our emotional state, thoughts, choices, and actions affect the greater whole.
Though we’re human, with egos and wounds, and make mistakes (sometimes lots of them), we strive to emit energy that’s light-filled and high-vibe.
We do this by dismantling the blocks (dense, low-vibe energy) between ourselves and the light consciousness (God/Source/Creator’s love) that’s always available to us.
Embodying more light consciousness = raising our vibe = contributing to a higher vibe for the world.
The idea that we’re each separate is a lie. We’re all connected energetically, to each other and the planet. And when one person raises their vibration and shines more brightly, it ripples out.
ARE YOU A LIGHTWORKER?
I loved the word “Lightworker” from the moment I heard it because it confirmed what I’d felt for years:
My inner light is important, my happiness is important, my healing and energy work are important. And by focusing on those things, I provide a service to myself and the world.
I’ve seen articles about lightworkers’ physical characteristics and even lightworker quizzes and tests but, in my opinion, that’s overcomplicating things and possibly feeding the ego’s desire for certainty and categorization.
If you feel a connection with the concept, then it’s your calling. And if you carry out the work, then you are one. It’s really as simple as that.
WHAT DO LIGHTWORKERS DO?
We bring more light consciousness to the planet.
How we do it may vary from one Lightworker to another but I’m aware of 5 ways:
1: Clearing emotional blocks and making space to hold more light.
This is done through a whole lot of shadow work: healing past wounds and ancestral trauma, releasing stuck emotions, deprogramming negative beliefs, and listening to the yearnings of our inner child.
It may seem counterintuitive to spend time in a dark space when we’re trying to cultivate more light, but our shadow is nothing to be afraid of, it’s a great teacher.
And when we bring aspects of our shadow into the light, take time to understand them, and accept them as our own, they’re transmuted.
2: Doing the things that truly make us happy.
The simplest way to raise our vibration is to do the things that make us happy. That light us up from the inside.
To stop listening to the ego’s fear of change, growth, and freedom, and live the life we know we’re here to live.
That may mean leaving an unfulfilling career or relationship or even moving to a warmer climate. Whatever sparks happiness and pleasure.
3: Becoming aware of how programmed we are.
When we expand our consciousness we can see all of the dysfunctional patterns within ourselves (emotional triggers, codependent relationships, etc.) and the world (the capitalistic mindset, fear-mongering, etc.).
We shouldn’t focus on darkness but we need to be aware of it to break free of these patterns and systems.
4: Clearing our energetic fields and breathing in universal light.

5: Choosing to be of service to The Highest Light/Source/God/Creator.
Service is a big part of being a Lightworker. It means getting our egos out of the way and following higher guidance, which in turn helps our life flow with more ease and adventure.
Here’s a helpful prayer from the profound channeled work, A Course In Miracles:
“Where would you have me go? What would you have me do? What would you have me say, and to whom?”
It’s a great way to start off the day.
DO LIGHTWORKERS HAVE SPIRITUAL GIFTS?
We all have spiritual gifts and abilities, just some are more aware of them than others.
Many Lightworkers are empaths and also sense or feel energy.
And some have one or more of the “clairs” (clairaudience, clairvoyance, claircognizance, clairsentience, clairtangency, clairsalience) or develop these through the work of progressively raising their vibration (a.k.a ascension).
But others don’t experience any of that.
What’s most important is the intent and devotion to being a source of light.
The gifts will surface when you’re ready for them.
ARE LIGHTWORKERS PEACEFUL ALL THE TIME?
Ha! There are probably some incredibly enlightened people who have learned to master the art of peacefulness.
I’m not one of them.
But I consider myself a Lightworker because I’m willing to allow the heavy emotions to fully pass through me in order to return to a high-vibe state.
We can either shove heavy emotions down, causing energy blockages and lowering our vibration for the long term, or chose to feel them for the short term.
SHOULD LIGHTWORKERS HAVE SPIRITUAL CAREERS?
Lightworkers can have any profession. And it’s better we do because it helps bring light into all sorts of workplaces that need it.
One time I was at the hospital for a bone marrow biopsy (they are NOT pleasant) and had the pleasure of being comforted during the procedure by a Lightworker nurse. Her energy was radiant and I was so appreciative.

While recognizing that we’re all living out our own unique mission and no one is better than another, that word resonated so deeply with me as well.
What I’ve really embodied since writing that article is to not fear my own darkness. We all have shadow parts (parts we’ve abandoned and sequestered) and they need our compassion and light as well.
